In this section you will find the accomplishments of D.L. Adams and Associates Ltd. and of the principal personally over the last 17 years. Certainly a platform to boast about the many successes. Also in these statements are some failures. When things didn’t go the way they were planned. These experiences are still listed here under accomplishments, because this knowledge is no less valuable in future projects than what was positive. Everyone benefits from that. (don’t be alarmed… the majority were successful!)

Yellow Pages Group formerly (Bell Canada) 

Western Canadian implementation of telephone directories. D.L. Adams and Associates Ltd, was the logistics head of the pioneering of yellow pages delivery for what was then Bell Canada, now known as Yellow Pages Group (YPG) in the lower mainland of British Columbia in 2001. Partnered with Canadian Alternative Delivery Services, (CDS) which provided front end soft management tools, Adams executed virgin field level deliveries for 1,000,000 households over a six month period.

Info Tel

A private ownership network of telephone books, delivering through mostly rural British Columbia and Alberta. Adams built and delivered books in 12 markets located throughout BC and Alberta during 1992 - 1996.

Phone Directories Company Ltd (PDC) 

This international company used Adams for distribution of rural telephone books in hard to reach areas of BC. A total of 6 markets.

Sears Canada

Sears Catalogue delivery was contracted and converted from several sources in rural British Columbia and rural Alberta. These sources were Canada Post, newspapers and independent distributors. Adams consolidated over 200,000 address specific subscribers over a household base of 800,000 in a geographical radius of 1200 miles incorporating an average of 300 carriers. This system was managed independently and profitably for a period of 7 years from 1996 - 2003

Newspaper Conversions

Adams contracted and converted several daily newspapers and several weekly free distribution papers. From 1996 – 2002 Adams participated in or independently converted the following newspapers to independent distributorships.

Labour Disruptions

Adams and his team have worked through six labour disruptions since 1994. These encompassed either managing the entire delivery network during the disruption or managing a portion of the distribution network under the larger picture of oversight.

Special Events

During his employment with Thomson Newspapers, Adams participated in several technology upgrades and practical front line unique newspaper events. In particular AM conversion of three titles with combined paid circulation of 40,000 daily and 125,000 TMC

  • Creation of an Alternative Delivery System network for Thomson Newspapers managing 125,000 households three times per week.
  • Creation of address specific delivery and digital mapping projects
  • Publishing Business Systems (PBS) computer systems upgrade
  • Creation of custom routing and mailroom management for midsize newspapers under 60,000 circulation
  • Creation and implementation of custom distribution management software
  • Live seedling tree distributions
  • Digital Mapping and Advertising Sales Applications

Entrepreneurial Accomplishments

Adams created and owned a private distribution network in several cities in Canada which resulted in over 150,000 daily paid home delivered products under management and an additional 200,000 free distribution products governed by a combined carrier force of 1000 and a staff of 36. All spread over a distance of 3500 mile and 2,000,000 Households. Gross annual distribution revenues exceeded $15,000,000.00

Additional Businesses

Adams also purchased a small printing facility and copy shop as well as a transport company. Integrating a third business, Adams contracted the management of a 110,000 square foot warehouse with multi strata ownership, to eventually combine and create a printing, courier, and distribution hub model.

A separate small inserting business for a 55,000 household twice weekly newspaper system was operated in Victoria BC encompassing 45,000,000 pieces per year.


Summary

Finally, Adams has retained several silent associates as a resource and experience base to support and draw from. All are 20 - 30 year veterans of the industry, some retired and some semi retired. All Directors, VP’s and Publishers of Metro Papers ranging from 65,000 / day to 550,000 / day.
